Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.
“Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”
The parallels with a man begging for Jesus to come down and heal his son on the verge of death were too strong for me to ignore. I repeatedly asked God to remove these physical issues that plague Roscoe, but he did not.Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.
Like the man who pleaded with Jesus to come to his home and heal his son before death, I pleaded with God to come down to Kaiser and then UCSF to heal Roscoe. My only wish was that God would have responded with "Go, your son will live". I will never look at this passage of scripture the same again. I now understand the urgency and frailty in the man's voice as he pleaded for his son's life. I try to fathom the joy and excitement in the man's heart as he departed for home, confident that his son was healed. Roscoe has changed my perception of many passages, but none as much as this one.
The strength and courageyou and Alisha have shown in writing this blog is nothing short of remarkable. The story of Roscoe's life has touched me deeply. I will never forget how his remarkable journey has captured the hearts of so many around the world! My prayers are with your family!

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking all day about 2 peter 3:8, and about how your precious baby has entered the "eternity" portion of life. He opened his eyes and was safe with God, and before he blinks you both will be there too. He won't have any sense of the waiting, or the longing for you both to be there with him, you just will be. I ache for you both, because it's you that has to suffer and endure the wait. I wish too that the answer God gave was different. I will miss seeing his face on the blog, checking on him was part of my daily routine. Praying for both of your hearts.

I came here this evening to mourn with you and through your words, you continue to shine God's grace like Roscoe's radiant smile. I realize now I come back here not just for Roscoe's amazing fight in this world, but your wisdom filled perspectives shared through faith.

I was hoping to wake up this morning and find that everything that happened was just a bad dream. Can't stop thinking of you guys. I feel empty and lost like lots of us out there who got to love the little sunshine. It's hard to say good bye. Every time I think about Roscoe I see his bright eyes and beautiful big smile. It was a blessing to know him through his story. He will always live in my heart and memories.
