Stenting Day

Today Roscoe will be 3rd in line for the cardiac catheterization lab. Dr. Fineman, Dr. Moore, and Dr. Cohen all agreed that stenting was the best route forward for Roscoe's health. They said that not only would stenting hopefully make him more stable for heart surgery, but it would also possibly make the surgery easier because the stented veins would be easier to locate. We aren't sure when Roscoe will go into the catheterization lab, but it will probably be around 3-4pm.

After the procedure, he will probably struggle a little like he did previously. They did an ultrasound on his neck yesterday to make sure the arteries look fine, in case they need to use a heart & lung machine to stabilize him. They anticipate using a heart & lung machine during/after his heart surgery to keep him alive. Here's what it looked like during the ultrasound:

They also started Roscoe on remodulin which continuously feeds into his bloodstream through an insertion site on Roscoe's left thigh. In the picture of Roscoe above, the site is covered by a padded wrap to keep the connector from catching on any blankets. This is the same medication that Caden was started on a few days ago:

Today Alisha and I will be trying to keep Roscoe happy for the duration of the day, since he often becomes mildly unstable when he gets upset. Roscoe won't come back from the cath lab until late tonight, so we probably won't be able to post the results until either very late tonight or tomorrow morning. Please pray that all goes smoothly. Lately I have been praying for time, health, and life, which are things that come solely from God.

  12. Shawn, you likely do not remember me, but I met you through Nick Perrin many years ago. I want your family to know that my entire small group is praying for Roscoe. Seeing what God has done to bring him this far has reaffirmed my faith and has reminded me to hug my daughter a little tighter.
